APPLICATIONS FOR THE HEXARMOR CHROME SERIES 4026 Hi Vis Level F CUT RESISTANT GLOVES

Protectionn Ratings and Standard Regulations

EN 388

  • EN 388: 4X21FP

EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves' performance when used for protection against mechanical machinery by measuring the fabric's abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure a glove in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.

SuperFabric Foundation Fabric System

SuperFabric is a protective system developed in 1996 to increase the cut, needle and incision capabilities of fabric. Since it's inception it's become an industry staple, being used in everything from safety gloves to stab proof vests. Please view the image below for a better understanding of what SuperFabric does to protect your hands:

SuperFabric Protection

What Is the Importance of Impact Protection?

Impact protection is an often overlooked form of protection. Working in heavy-duty handling (bricklayers, construction, sheet metal handling) means lifting, carrying and holding heavy, dense material for long periods.

Incredible Level F Cut Resistance Rating

Level F cut resistance is the highest rating available under EN 388. It is only awarded to the most durable, heavy-duty safety gloves. It indicates a piece of fabric is able to withstand in excess of an incredible 30 newtons of downward pressure applied by a sharp implement.

So What Does This Actually Mean?

In simple terms, a Level F rating indicates a glove is incredible safe. It will protect you from slashing, blade cuts, incisions and serrated edges. It is literally the difference between a sharp blade or edge slicing straight through your hand and the blade becoming lodged between the tightly woven cut-resistant fibres that make up your glove.

PVC Print Palm

PVC is an incredibly thin coating. It sits over the foundation material at the palm to bolster grip strength and prevent cuts, abrasions and scratches ruin your day. The raised print on the palm further improves grip stability by giving the material something textured to latch on to when lifting, carrying and handling.

Synthetic Leather Fabric

The foundation fabric at the base of HexArmor 4026 Gloves is made of a robust and reliable synthetic leather that reinforces grip strength and allows your hand to naturally flex around whatever material you're carrying or lifting.

Isn't Synthetic Leather a Cheap Alternative?

Synthetic leather gets a bad rep. It has a number of practical benefits over its natural counterparts. It's actually incredibly durable, crack and stain resistant and on top of that, it will not fade due to sun bleaching.

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
