MaxiFlex Level 3 Cut Resistant Gloves 34-8743

Designed to provide dexterity, comfort and protection from rough work conditions, the MaxiFlex Level 3 Cut Resistant Gloves 34-8743 feature a durable liner and a nitrile coating. Their liner is made from a blend of nylon, Spandex, glass and polyester for maximum strength and flexibility, while GRIPtech technology ensures users can keep a secure hold on components for safer manual handling.

Which Size of Gloves Should I Select?

The MaxiFlex Gloves are available in three different sizes, meaning that you should be able to find the size that's right for you. To measure your hand, measure the circumference of your hand around the knuckles (excluding the thumb) with your hand open and your fingers together as seen in the image below.

Indications of Where to Measure Your Hand

Glove Size Palm Circumference Palm Length
Size 8 203mm 182mm
Size 9 229mm 192mm
Size 10 254mm 204mm

What Are the MaxiFlex Level 3 Cut Resistant Gloves For?

The MaxiFlex Gloves have outstanding resistance to abrasions and tears and a good level of cut resistance, making them well suited to a number of different working conditions. They are highly dexterous and offer a superb level of grip for maximum control during handling applications. Industries and uses we recommend these gloves for include:

  • Aerospace
  • Agriculture
  • Assembly
  • Builders
  • Car mechanics
  • Component handling
  • Construction
  • Engineering
  • Industrial
  • Local authorities
  • Machinist
  • Maintenance
  • Mechanics
  • Metal handling
  • Moulding
  • Public transport
  • Railway maintenance
  • Transportation

Please note that this is just a list of recommendations, and that these gloves would prove suitable in a far wider selection of tasks than those mentioned. They are suitable for most manual handling environments involving rough materials, or where there is a risk of lesser cut injuries.

How Cut Resistant Are the MaxiFlex 34-8743 Gloves?

The MaxiFlex Gloves harness CUTtech technology to provide improved cut resistance without reducing comfort or dexterity. This technology combines and blends high performance yarns and fibres to create a cut resistant material that does not depend on excessive bulk or density. The gloves are also reinforced between the thumb and forefinger for improved cut resistance in these areas and extra-protection in an inherently weak section of the glove.

Due to these attributes, the gloves achieve a medium level of cut and blade cut resistance according to EN 388 standards, and can therefore protect against minor lacerations. They should NOT be used for handling very sharp materials, but can offer protection from lesser cut damage in rough work environments.

Why Should I Trust the MaxiFlex Level 3 Grip Gloves?

For proof of the resistance against physical risks that these gloves offer, they have been tested to the EN 388 standard. This standard demonstrates their resistance to abrasions, cuts, tears and punctures. Their results when tested to EN 388 (mechanical protection), are listed below.

  • EN 388: 4331B
Hazard Level of Resistance
Abrasion Resistance Level 4
Cut Resistance Level 3
Tear Resistance Level 3
Puncture Resistance Level 1
Blade Cut Level B

What Do These Scores Mean?

These scores are rated out of 4, except cut resistance which is rated out of 5, and blade cut resistance which is rated from A-F. According to this standard, the MaxiFlex Gloves achieve the highest possible level of abrasion resistance and a very high level of tear resistance. The gloves are therefore suitable for working with rough or coarse objects and are less likely to be damaged by such risks. In terms of cut resistance, the gloves offer a medium level of protection and are able to resist minor cuts.

How Much Grip Do the MaxiFlex Gloves Provide?

A strong, secure grip is vital during manual handling applications, especially when dealing with materials or those that could cause physical injury. Designed for use in such circumstances, the MaxiFlex Gloves have a nitrile micro-cup coating that offers an outstanding level of grip. The cups have a rough texture which creates traction between objects and the gloves so they don't slip out of a user's grasp.

How Dexterous Are the MaxiFlex Gloves?

For a high level of dexterity, the MaxiFlex Gloves are made with a stretchy nylon and Spandex liner which fits snugly against the hand. Its flexible composition bends to the movement of the hands and fingers while its ultra-thin construction allows users to feel the components they work with. This construction enables better hand control for safer and more productive manual handling.

How Durable Are the MaxiFlex Gloves?

While the MaxiFlex Gloves may be lightweight and thin, they are also incredibly durable. Their flexible nylon liner is reinforced with glass and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene for a higher level of mechanical resistance. Additionally a nitrile rubber coating adds to their physical resistance, helping them to achieve fantastic levels of abrasion and tear resistance and a decent level of cut resistance. Due to their resistance to such damage, they have great longevitiy compared to many other lightweight handling gloves.

How Do the MaxiFlex Gloves Protect My Skin?

The MaxiFlex Gloves have been certified by the OEKO-TEX Association as skin safe from the second they comes into contact with the skin. This rating proves that the gloves can keep skin cool, dry and safe even in warm or uncomfortable working environments. The Skin Health Alliance have also rated the full ATG range 'dermatologically safe'.

Gloves from ATG can be washed safely in the following way:

1. Use commercial laundry soap or detergent (do NOT use dry cleaning solutions!)
2. Wash in warm to medium hot water, do not exceed 104°F (40°C)
3. Wash for 10 minutes
4. Rinse in cold water.
5. Repeat wash and rinse if soiling is especially heavy
6. Rinse in cold water
7. Tumble dry - maximum temperature 140°F (60°C)

When laundering gloves that have especially heavy dirt or grease, include several pieces of heavy canvas in the second wash cycle - friction from the canvas against the gloves helps loosen and remove deep dirt.

IMPORTANT NOTE

During the use of gloves and the laundering process glove performance can and will deteriorate. For critical areas requiring cut and heat resistance tests need to be conducted after use and laundering to ensure that the performance criteria still meet the needs of those using the glove. Safety Gloves can accept no liability once gloves have been washed.

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
