Suitable Applications and Environments for Polyco Volcano Heat Gloves

Please view the list below to see which professions and environments suit the unique heat protective qualities of Polyco Volcano Heat Safe Gloves:

Incredible Contact Heat Resistance

Polyco Volcano Safety Gloves protect the hands when handling material up to an incredible 350°C for fifteen seconds. This amazing protection allows the user to handle, transfer, remove and inspect heated parts, material, products, tools and instruments without worrying about burns and scalding.

Polyco Volcano Heat Safe Gloves

Vital Convective Heat Protection

Convective heat protection is an often overlooked safeguard that prevents the transfer of heat from a direct flame. The woven heat-resistant fibres used to construct Polyco Volcano Safety Gloves protect the hand in the event that they come into contact with fire, meaning the hand can be encased in flame for an incredible 18 seconds before heat is transferred onto the glove.

What Tasks Can Polyco Volcano Gloves Assist With?

  • Transferring heated material from a furnace
  • Direct blacksmithing and welding
  • Mechanical or automotive inspection and alteration of engine parts
  • Inspecting heated material in kilns
  • Lifting material out through direct flame contact
  • Preventing small splashes of molten metal

Innovative Kevlar Foundation Fabric

Kevlar is a synthetic material manufactured by DuPont using a tightly woven collection of aramid fibres that are spun until the bond formed between them is too tight to separate. Kevlar is used in the manufacture of cut-resistant clothing and gloves because the lack of gaps between the fibres means a blade cannot easily pierce or puncture it.

Polyco Volcano Safety Gloves

Flexible and Dexterous Knit Wrist Cuff

Available in two different length variations, Polyco Volcano Safety Gloves not only protect your hands, but  your wrists and lower forearm too. This is vital when handling heated material, as scalding and burns often occur when rubbing against or brushing into seriously hot material.

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.

Great alternative to leather gauntlets
06 November 2021  |

We’ve just bought a wood-burning stove for our tent and wanted some heat/fire resistant gloves. We didn’t want leather because we’re vegetarian/vegan.
These seem just right for the job. I can move pots and pans, or put logs in the fire safely.
Fingers are a bit long, and the base of the thumb is quite tight, but enough dexterity for what I need.
I expect they won’t last as long as leather, but that’s a price I’m prepared to pay.

The gloves maybe heat resistant but after so long the gloves seem to withhold heat internally and so the users protection is greatly reduced

I use them for an outdoor pizza oven. The quality is great and much better value for money than the branded gloves

Kevlar gloves
08 November 2019  |

I only use these in my back garden for my washing machine fire pit. Ideal for placing logs inside, even when flames are reaching up. Also ideal for picking up the washing machine drum and shaking it to redistribute the hot embers around the base to get an even fire base. Love these gloves.

Polyco Volcano Heavyweight Kevlar Heat Resistant Gloves 7564

Service excellent - arrived quickly. As for the gloves ... look and feel the real thing - have not had to use them (for an electric pottery kiln - which reaches 400 degree C on outside casing) - these are my insurance in case I need to handle it. Biggish fingers (for me) and would not be useful handling small items - but there to protect me ... therefore good.

Indispensible
22 January 2017  |

I cannot be without these gloves - I have tried many many alternatives over the years but none gave the level of protection of the Volcano gloves. The seller's professionalism only adds to the overall value of the deal, which I honestly believe cannot be bettered.

Big hands
26 May 2016  |

Definitely heatproof but the inner glove is not fixed and if you have large hands, the fingers tend to pull inside out which because of the thickness of the material are difficult to get back in.
