HexArmor ThornArmor 3092 Landscaping Gloves offer superb protection to the hands during gardening, handling plants and during industrial gardening tasks like landscaping, cultivation and arboriculture. Suitable environments and applications include:

How Cut and Puncture Resistant Are the HexArmor Gardening 3092 Gloves?

HexArmor ThornArmor 3092 Gloves provide the highest cut resistance possible (Level F), meaning that you can use them with jagged thorns, sharp cacti and prickly roses. Reinforced stitching and three layers of SuperFabric mean that you can have faith that the HexArmor Gloves will protect your palms on all areas shown in green below. For reference, SuperFabric is the same material used in law enforcement gloves to protect the wearer's hands from needles.

Where Do the HexArmor Gloves Protect You

What Is SuperFabric?

SuperFabric is made up of multiple layers of fabric separated by a guard that prevents needles and other sharp items from reaching the skin. SuperFabric allows the gloves to act as a barrier between your skin and needles, thorns and more.

Please note that SuperFabric is lined on the palm in the green area shown above. The uncovered area will not provide the same high level of protection against thorns.

Protection Ratings and Standard Specification

EN 388

  • EN 388: 4X33F

EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves' performance when used for protection against mechanical machinery by measuring the fabric's abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure a glove in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.

Standard Resistance Rating
Abrasion Resistance Level 4
Cut Resistance N/A
Tear Resistance Level 3
Puncture Resistance Level 3
ISO Cut Resistance Level F

Incredible Level F Cut Resistance Rating

Level F cut resistance is the highest rating awarded under EN 388. It is only awarded to incredibly resistant safety gloves. It indicates that a garment, glove or fabric can withstand an incredible 30 newtons of downward force applied by a sharp implement.

So, What Does This Mean?

In terms we can understand, a Level F glove makes the difference between your hand being slashed, cut or punctured and the tip of the implement or piece of equipment becoming lodged in the highly cut-resistant fibres that make up your glove. Level F gloves offer serious protection that can prevent life changing injuries.

Protection guaranteed

Can I Use The HexArmor Gloves to Handle Tools and Machinery?

Despite their resistance to cuts, thorns and shrubbery, the HexArmor Landscaping Gloves retain dexterity and offer an impressive level of grip. These makes the gloves well suited to handling secateurs and other gardening and landscaping equipment. You have full movement of your fingers and thumb, allowing you to grip tools without risk of dropping them.

Are The 3092 ThornArmor Gloves Comfortable?

These gloves offer superb protection against a wide range of plants and shrubbery, but working outdoors can require comfort too. The HexArmor ThornArmor Gloves feature an Airprene cuff and HexVent window that allow cooler air to circumvent the gloves, preventing overheating and reducing hand fatigue. The double stitching means the gloves are more flexible too, meaning that you aren't using energy when it comes to gripping items and handling tools.

Do the ThornArmor Gloves Have a Secure Fit?

What Weather Can I Use the HexArmor Landscaping Gloves In?

Versatile and breathable, these gloves are well suited to all-round weather. What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.

Standing up to Hawthorn so far
28 December 2023  |

Took a little while to break in. Been cutting Hawthorn back and so far no punctures through the palms and fingers, so better than even thick leather. However could really do with protection for the back of the hand hence only 4 stars.

Palm D'Or
26 July 2023  |

The protection for your palms from these gloves is great . You can grip and tug out the prickliest of brambles . They are also flexible enough to use secateurs without having to take them off. Where they fall down is protection for the back of the hands is non existent which to be fair is stated in the adverts. Brambles do have a habit of curling round when they are free of the ground. The back of the gloves are a thin woven nylon which actually catches the thorns if they touch the back. If the material was a smooth surface or even completely covered by the material used for the wording and decoration on the back, the thorns would be much less likely to find anything to catch on and penetrate.

Excellent gloves
17 July 2023  |

Purchased these to replace some old gardening gloves that thorns were getting the better of. Although pricey, these gloves are very well made and an excellent fit. I have t had the opportunity to test against brambles yet, but they certainly look like will offer the claimed protection. Recommended.

Not perfect but better than almost everything else
03 October 2022  |

I use these for pulling brambles. That is uprooting them by hauling on the thorny stems. A pair of lined leather gauntlets will last about 8 hours before the leather is worn through. These have so far lasted about 15 hours. The fabric rear is beginning to tear through and the structure of the gloves dos not allow one to wrap the bramble for better purchase. The front of the gloves are a little stiff and the fingers slightly long for me but nothing unusable. I will buy another pair if they last 40 hours. I wish that they were cheaper.

Best thorn proof so far.
03 June 2022  |

They're a bit stiff in the palm to start with but ease up with use. Haven't been stabbed yet whilst working with them. The backs are fairly thin and so you still need to be careful but they're a much better working glove than welding gloves which I used to use.

Response:

Hi Caroline,

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review with us. It's great to hear what our customers are up to with our products once they leave us.

The stiffness in the glove is indicative of the high level of protection they offer. As you stated, this wears off over time as the fabric of the glove begins to gently mould to the shape of your hand. We're really glad to hear you're happy with your HexArmor Cut Resistant Gardening Gloves and that they've successfully protected your hands whilst you're working!

We look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Kind regards,

Seth at SafetyGloves.co.uk

Very thornproof!
21 March 2022  |

These gloves really do stop the thorns penetrating into the fingers and palms. We have very vicious brambles in our garden and the gloves really did protect the hands. The only downside is, I used the size gauge provided and bought a size 8. But a size 7 would have been better. Being a bit too big makes it awkward for using secateurs.
