How Cut and Puncture Resistant Are the HexArmor Gardening 3092 Gloves?

HexArmor ThornArmor 3092 Gloves provide the highest cut resistance possible (Level F), meaning that you can use them with jagged thorns, sharp cacti and prickly roses. Reinforced stitching and three layers of SuperFabric mean that you can have faith that the HexArmor Gloves will completely protect your hands. For reference, SuperFabric is the same material used in law enforcement gloves to protect the wearers hands from needles.

Where Do the HexArmor Gloves Protect You

What Is SuperFabric?

SuperFabric is multiple layers of fabric separated by a guard, that prevents needles and other sharp items from reaching the skin. SuperFabric allows the gloves to act as a barrier between your skin, and needles, thorns and more. HexArmor boast that it was SuperFabric which allowed a major company to reduce their hand injury rate to zero.

Please note that SuperFabric is lined on the palm. The rest of the gloves does not protect against thorns.

Protection Ratings and Standard Specification

EN 388

  • EN 388: 4X33F

EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves' performance when used for protection against mechanical machinery by measuring the fabric's abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure a glove in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.

Standard Resistance Rating
Abrasion Resistance Level 4
Cut Resistance N/A
Tear Resistance Level 3
Puncture Resistance Level 3
ISO Cut Resistance Level F

Incredible Level F Cut Resistance Rating

Level F cut resistance is the highest rating awarded under EN 388. It is only awarded to incredibly resistant safety gloves. It indicates that a garment, glove or fabric can withstand an incredible 30 newtons of downward force applied by a sharp implement.

So, What Does This Mean?

In terms we can understand, a Level F glove makes the difference between your hand being slashed, cut or punctured and the tip of the implement or piece of equipment becoming lodged in the highly cut-resistant fibres that make up your glove. Level F gloves offer serious protection that can prevent life changing injuries.

Protection guaranteed

Can I Use The HexArmor Gloves to Handle Tools and Machinery?

Despite their resistance to cuts, thorns and shrubbery, the HexArmor Landscaping Gloves retain dexterity and offer an impressive level of grip. These makes the gloves well suited to handling secateurs and other gardening and landscaping equipment. You have full movement of your fingers and thumb, allowing you to grip tools without risk of dropping them.

Are The 3092 ThornArmor Gloves Comfortable?

These gloves offer superb protection against a wide range of plants and shrubbery, but working outdoors can require comfort too. The HexArmor ThornArmor Gloves feature an Airprene cuff and HexVent window that allow cooler air to circumvent the gloves, preventing overheating and reducing hand fatigue. The double stitching means the gloves are more flexible too, meaning that you aren't using energy when it comes to gripping items and handling tools.

Do the ThornArmor Gloves Have a Secure Fit?

The ThornArmor 3092 Work Gloves are designed to fit securely to reduce the risk of handling potentially dangerous objects. With an Airprene cuff and Velcro fastening, the gloves offer reliable protection against risks caused by hand exposure.

What Weather Can I Use the HexArmor Landscaping Gloves In?

Versatile and breathable, these gloves are well suited to all-round weather. While they aren't waterproof, they are suitable for washing, so a bit of rain shouldn't damage the performance of the gloves too much. Similarly, the gloves are breathable, making them well suited to hot, outdoor work during summer.

Can I Wash the ThornArmor Gloves?

The ThornArmor HexArmor Gloves are suitable for washing. To wash the gloves, please follow the below instructions, or click the PDF.

  • For machine washing, please wash on a regular cycle using cool water without bleach

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.

Best thorn proof so far.
Friday, 3 June 2022  |

They're a bit stiff in the palm to start with but ease up with use. Haven't been stabbed yet whilst working with them. The backs are fairly thin and so you still need to be careful but they're a much better working glove than welding gloves which I used to use.

Response:

Hi Caroline,

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review with us. It's great to hear what our customers are up to with our products once they leave us.

The stiffness in the glove is indicative of the high level of protection they offer. As you stated, this wears off over time as the fabric of the glove begins to gently mould to the shape of your hand. We're really glad to hear you're happy with your HexArmor Cut Resistant Gardening Gloves and that they've successfully protected your hands whilst you're working!

We look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Kind regards,

Seth at SafetyGloves.co.uk

Very thornproof!
Monday, 21 March 2022  |

These gloves really do stop the thorns penetrating into the fingers and palms. We have very vicious brambles in our garden and the gloves really did protect the hands. The only downside is, I used the size gauge provided and bought a size 8. But a size 7 would have been better. Being a bit too big makes it awkward for using secateurs.

Thornarmor Gloves
Sunday, 19 December 2021  |

The sizing is a little on the large side. I would buy them again but a size down.
The armour on the palms is amazing for thorns not a single thorn has got past the first layer. However it would be beneficial if some of this wrapped to the back of the hand.

Good gloves great service
Sunday, 19 December 2021  |

I own a Garden maintenance company and for the last couple of years I have bought my general gardening gloves from safetygloves (Acegrip Red) these are great all round gloves at a good price however they do not give great protection against thorns so I invested in a pair of ThornArmor gloves for extra protection where needed.
I have used them ripping out brambles and they work really well so the gloves get 4 stars as the mesh backing whilst flexible, gives little protection (however because of the flexible backing they are usable and not too stiff.)
I would still be careful grabbing hard on mature pyracantha but will be much better than anything else I have got.
The 5th star is for the level of service. An easy and informative website, reasonable prices, and excellent delivery times. Thanks

Not 100% perfect but definitely the most thornproof gloves I have ever experienced. A little stiff to use when new but if they become more flexible with use they would be perfect.

Gloves for hawthorn
Thursday, 7 October 2021  |

A lot better than regular gloves for shredding hawthorn but the thorn-proof material only covers the palm and sides not the back.
