The Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves are suitable for use by firefighters, giving you protection against extreme heat and flames. The gloves may also be suitable for other people who are coming into contact with high temperatures or flames but this depends on the specifics of the situation.


The Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves are made from nothing but the best materials, providing you with protection against fire that you can trust. The materials include:

  • Outer Shell: Pyrohide leather
  • Interlining: Gore Crosstech glove insert
  • Lining: Knitted Kevlar with glass-fibre core and Viloft yarn plating
  • Cuff: Nomex/Kevlar 2 x 2 knitted blend with elastane and pyrohide vein patch
  • Thread: Sewn throughout with Nomex thread

Pyrohide Shell

Pyrohide leather is exclusively manufactured in the UK by Southcombe and is ideal for resistance against heat, fire, water, salt-water, liquid chemicals (including sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, ethanol et cetera) and Man Made Mineral Fibres (MMMF). The Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves utilise pyrohide leather for the outer shell of the gloves. Pyrohide is used by 48 out of the 61 fire brigades in the UK and retains tactile properties in dry or wet weather.


On top of a lining and a shell, the Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves feature an interlining that offers better protection against heat. The interlining of the glove is a Gore Crosstech insert that is resistant to pathogens and is moisture vapour permeable. This permeable membrane prevents sweat and is chemically bonded to the lining to prevent inversion, ensuring you have the best comfort and protection.

Kevlar Lining

Each Southcombe Firemaster 3 Glove has a Kevlar lining that provides high levels of resistance against cuts or slashes and also prevents abrasion from damaging the glove. The Kevlar lining also features a Viloft yarn plate that helps to wick away moisture from your hands — ideal for preventing sweat from causing discomfort.

Knitted Kevlar/Nomex Wristlet Cuff

To give added protection to your wrists, the Southcombe Firemaster Wildland Gloves feature a highly cut resistant knitted Kevlar/Nomex. The undyed 2 x 2 knit also feature elastine for a more comfortable fit and Pyrohide vein patches.

The Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves are available in nine different sizes. To measure which size you need, please measure your dominant hand (whichever is larger) by making a fist and measuring the tape around the widest part (between your thumb and index finger). Care Instructions

Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves are non-repairable and should be disposed of if damaged. The gloves do not require solvent based cleaners and should not be washed using cleaning agents of this type. Pyrohide leather is designed to dry quickly and remains soft and dexterous after washing.

Washing Instructions

For the best results cleaning your Southcombe Firemaster 3 Gloves, please follow these guidelines:
  • Produce a good lather in lukewarm water using a mild detergent with a natural pH level
  • Immerse the gloves and wash gently on your hands
  • Remove gloves and rinse thoroughly in clean water
  • Squeeze out all excess water from the fingers downward and pull gently into shape
  • Hang to dry away from direct sunlight or heat
  • Wash gloves before they become too soiled
  • A sponge is recommended for use with ingrained grime
  • Gloves may be washed with articles of a similar colour but always follow the above instructions

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.
