TraffiGlove TG1040 all-Purpose Handling Gloves

The Traffiglove TG1040 All-Purpose Handling Gloves are a comfortable pair of seamless knitted gloves for use in multiple working environments and general handling. what is the resistance of the tg1040 Gloves?

We believe these gloves are excellent for usage in multiple work environments - but don't take our word for it. These gloves are back by a regulatory body, adhering to EN 388 (mechanical protection). See below for further details:

EN 388

Property Resistance Level
Abrasion Resistance Level 4
Cut Resistance Level 1
Tear Resistance Level 3
Puncture Resistance Level 1
ISO Cut Resistance

Level A

This means that the TraffiGlove Gloves offer an outstanding level of abrasion resistance, which can protect the hands against knocks and scrapes. Combined with the high level of tear resistance, this makes the TG1040 a pretty durable pair of work gloves. They do, however, offer lower cut-resistance, meaning that you won't want to wear the gloves in higher risk settings where the risk of cuts is present.

TraffiGlove pride themselves on being the original inventors of the colour coded safety glove system. The TraffiSystem makes it easy to identify the level of cut protection required, based on the EN 388 test for cut resistance, even at a glance or from a distance.

Colour Rate of Cut Protection Description of Protection
RED Low Suitable for lower cut risk tasks only, such as general product handling, warehouse and assembly line work and some low risk construction jobs. They're a good choice for visitors on site, in order to comply with safety regulations.
AMBER Medium  Ideal for second fix construction, mechanical and electrical trades, steel fixing and handling materials with sharp edges. The gloves in this range are finished with a variety of coatings.
GREEN High The best choice for higher cut risk tasks like applying cladding, demolition, steel fabrication and handling glass or sheet metal with cut edges. They also provide the higher levels of protection necessary when dealing with unknown risks, such as in the waste and recycling industries.

key features

The TG1040 Gloves are designed with a number of key features that make them the perfect workwear gloves:

  • Nylon inner liner keeps the hand warm, secure and flexible
  • Knuckle dipped in flat Nitrile for excellent oil and water resistance
  • Palm is set with a dense black and sandy X-Dura Nitrile Foam for a hardy and impervious grip
  • The gloves are suitable for wet and dry conditions

How warm are these gloves?

These Gloves are lightweight but surprisingly dense, allowing for a good level of heat retention. The Nylon lining is compact enough to feel your hands are safe and secure.

Are they good for handling

The TG1040 Gloves are fantastic for handling blunt objects (anything sharp is a no go). Their layered design provides them with a exceptional level of abrasion and tear resistance, allowing for dexterous actions.

What Size should i Choose?

The TG1040 Gloves are available in 4 different sizes, meaning that you should be able to find the size that's right for you. To measure your hand, measure the circumference of your hand around the knuckles (excluding the thumb) with your hand open and your fingers together as seen in the image below.

Indications of Where to Measure Your Hand

Size Circumference (mm) Length (mm) Min. Length of Gloves (mm)
Size 7 178mm 171mm 230mm
Size 8 203mm 182mm 240mm
Size 9 229mm 192mm 250mm

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
