Suitable Applications and Environments for Use

Please view the list below to see which environments suit the unique protection that Polyco 920 Heat and Cut Gloves offer:

Contact Heat Resistance

Contact heat resistance refers to the temperature a glove can withstand when coming into direct contact with an object. Polyco 920 Kevlar Safety Gloves are a level 1 glove, meaning they can safely handle material with a temperature not exceeding 100°C.

This resistance rating is brilliant for mechanics and machinists due to their constant exposure to heated engines, pipes and machine interiors.

Maximum Level 4 Abrasion Resistance Rating

Abrasion resistance demonstrates how tough a glove is. The higher the rating, the more resistant to wear and tear the fabric is.

Polyco Nitron Plus Safety Gloves have been awarded the maximum level 4 rating under EN 388, which displays just how durable their foundation fabric is. Ideal for use in high-traffic situations, their robust combination of polyurethane and Kevlar is highly resistant to scratching, scuffing and other forms of superficial damage.

What Is Kevlar and What Does It Do?

Kevlar is a trademarked synthetic material developed to withstand intense force in gloves, vests, t-shirts and other garments. Best known for its use in ballistic body armour, Kevlar is used worldwide due to its incredible cut resistance, heat retention and high tensile strength.

Polyco 920 Safety Gloves use Kevlar as a foundation fabric because it bolsters abrasion, cut and contact heat resistance, allowing the user to safely handle material that would otherwise cause them and their hands harm.

Polyco 920 Safety Gloves

What Are the Benefits of a Nitrile Coating?

Nitrile is a coating that excels in dirty conditions. Thanks to thousands of tiny bubbles that are injected into the coating before application, nitrile works tirelessly to absorb moisture, liquid particles and other harmful substrates off of the face of the glove, preventing your grip from weakening and your hands slipping when handling material in the workplace.

Level C Cut Resistance Rating

A level C cut resistance rating indicates a glove can withstand up to 15 newtons of downward force applied by the tip of a sharp implement before showing signs of damage. This level of protection could be the difference between a tool or machine part ripping straight through your hand and it simply becoming lodged in between the tightly spun Kevlar fibres that make up Polyco 920 Safety Gloves.

Enhanced Protection and Dexterity

Unlike other highly protective safety gloves, Polyco 920 Kevlar Cut Resistance Gloves do not compromise on dexterity. Manufactured with a slightly textured stipple coating, they allow the user to seamlessly pick up, adjust, transfer and make alterations to whatever material is at hand.

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
