What is EN 511?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 511. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 511. EN 511 stands for all things cold, and means that your gloves have been tested for their convective cold resistance, contact cold resistance and water permeability properties.

How Do I Read the EN 511 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score achieved the better the product will be at resisting the hazard tested. For the first two tests (convective cold resistance and contact cold resistance), the product will achieve between a Level 0 and a Level 4. The higher the score the better the resistance, with a Level 0 score meaning that it failed and an N/A score meaning that the product wasn’t tested for this hazard.

For water permeability the product will achieve either a Level 0 or a Level 1. Level 1 means that the product is waterproof, and Level 0 means that it isn't.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 511 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 511 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.

Great for cycling
Friday, 22 February 2019  |

I bought 2 pairs of Ejendals Tegera 297 for cycling in cold weather on the recommendation of a friend. I always suffer from cold fingers and toes as the temperature approaches zero. Not any more. My hands have never felt so warm, despite spending much more on cycling-specific gloves in the past. 5 stars.

Great value and so far keeping the cold out
Thursday, 31 January 2019  |

I use them for mountain biking in fact. Last night it was -2 degrees and they just about coped. They have kept the wet spray and snow out so far and I would say they are as good as waterproof mountain biking gloves costing twice as much. As a work glove they are brilliant and the sizing is accurate.

Worth the money
Friday, 25 January 2019  |

Bought these based on the reviews I had read. Very warm in cold conditions, kept the moisture out when moving wet loads fair better than my old glove, the only error I made was leaving them palm down on the radiator overnight, they got a
in bit hard. Really put them to the test in the first 2 weeks and they stood up pretty well. Very happy with my purchase, will re-visit the website in the summer to look for some more suited to warmer conditions when the weather changes.

Gloves for hiking/mountains
Sunday, 11 November 2018  |

These are obviously designed for working out in all conditions. I tried them out in some wet and windy weather on the coast of Devon. They seemed up to the job. They got wet but my hands inside stayed warm and dry. Too bulky for scrambling at a guess but they look durable to me. I'd be happy wearing these out in the mountains of Snowdonia or the Lake District which are my usual haunts,
