What is EN 511?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 511. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 511. EN 511 stands for all things cold, and means that your gloves have been tested for their convective cold resistance, contact cold resistance and water permeability properties.

How Do I Read the EN 511 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score achieved the better the product will be at resisting the hazard tested. For the first two tests (convective cold resistance and contact cold resistance), the product will achieve between a Level 0 and a Level 4. The higher the score the better the resistance, with a Level 0 score meaning that it failed and an N/A score meaning that the product wasn’t tested for this hazard.

For water permeability the product will achieve either a Level 0 or a Level 1. Level 1 means that the product is waterproof, and Level 0 means that it isn't.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 511 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 511 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.

Almost there

I've been suffering with really cold fingers for the last few years and these gloves were recommended. They are better than the Thinsulates that I was wearing before but they aren't the complete solution that I was hoping for.

Bought these for my Mum who has had them before and loves them. Neither of us could believe it when they arrived the next day but then the delivery did seem expensive at £4.95 PLUS VAT. They are excellent.

Great warm and dry gloves
Tuesday, 12 January 2021  |

What a fantastic pair of gloves, bought originally for gardening but almost too good for that purpose. I wear them when out walking, they look smart, keep my hands toasty warm and dry. Will have to buy another pair for the garden now.

Warm and waterproof, but when the goatskin palm gets wet, the grip is not as good as it could be.

Multi fuctional gloves
Monday, 4 January 2021  |

This is my second pair of these gloves, they are great to use for hiking, cycling and when I'm wild camping in winter.
Most 'branded' cycling gloves are three times the price and half as effective.
These are great at keeping my hands warm and retain heat really well.

WORK GLOVES
Monday, 16 November 2020  |

These are the best make of gloves I have ever purchased. They are totally waterproof and keep my hands warm at the same time. My only improvement would be to make the leather tougher. I am a builder and know that they are designed for freezer work so it is more for my trade that I would look to make them tougher. For the job they are intended for, you could not find a better glove.
