Briers Advanced All Weather Gardening Gloves

Keeping your hands safe and comfortable whatever the weather, the Briers Advanced All Weather Gardening Gloves are the ideal versatile and practical addition to your gardening wardrobe. The Thinsulate liner provides warmth in colder conditions, and the windproof and waterproof materials help to keep hands feeling snug and dry.

What Are the Key Features?

  • Designed to protect hands while gardening
  • Thinsulate liner keeps hands warm and comfortable
  • Windproof and waterproof materials to keep hands dry and snug
  • Elasticated wrist for improved fit and to keep out debris
  • Anti-vibration patch in each palm reduces impact when using power tools
  • Tested to EN 388 with good cut and tear resistance
  • Provided as a pair of gloves

How Did the Gloves Hold Up Under Testing?

The Briers Gloves meet the following specifications:

  • EN 388:2003:1221

The table below showcases the test results of the Briers gardening gloves according to EN 388 Mechanical Risk specifications:

Hazard Resistance Rating
Abrasion Level 1
Cut Level 2
Tear Level 2
Puncture Level 1

What Makes The Gloves Ideal for Cold Weather Conditions?

The Advanced All Weather Gardening Gloves can be worn while gardening all year round, but they are particularly suited to keeping your hands warm while gardening in more wintry conditions. They feature a Thinsulate liner for added warmth, and the windproof and waterproof materials will prevent hands from becoming chilly or wet.

What Are the Benefits of the Anti-Vibration Patch?

More intense gardening may require the use of power tools, and hand/arm vibration can cause all kinds of problems. The anti-vibration patches in the gloves help to absorb some of this shock, improving immediate comfort and reducing the risk of long-term pain and discomfort.

What Are the Applications of the Gloves?

As the Briers Gardening Gloves protect hands with a reliable construction, they are ideal for a wide range of tasks. Suitable applications include:

  • Bramble cutting

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.

I was given a pair for Christmas 2 years ago. They have lasted well for garden duties and for my volunteer work on Canal Restoration and an annual Charity Bonfire which is built between September and November each year. www.chiddingfoldbonfire.org.uk
