Main Features of the Hexarmor Hercules 3180 Venom Defender Snake Handling Gloves

The Materials

The HexArmor Hercules 3180 Venom Defender Snake Handling Gloves high level of cut resistance is achieved by specific layering of 'SuperFabric' branded material which is a breathable, durable and lightweight fabric. Each layer of SuperFabric is reinforced with an overlay of tiny armour plates which makes it strong yet also flexible. By design, the Hercules 3180 is comfortable and provides high level of grip and high level of dexterity.

Grip

The gloves boast a specialised silicon gripping surface on the palm for optimum grip capabilities.

Animal Handling

The Hercules 3180 Gloves are effectively used in animal welfare and zoology for handling all types of snakes, lizards, small stingrays, crocodilians, small sharks, seals and sea lions, primates, birds, cats, dogs and rodents. These gloves are stipulated as requirement by many local authorities recognized by many local Dangerous Wild Animal licenses.

Through the use of these gloves handlers feel less at risk and less tense when handling the animals. Tension in handlers can transmit to the animals making them stressed. Through the use of these gloves the animals stay calmer and less stressed when being handled.

Testing

The HexArmor Hercules 3180 Venom Defender Snake Handling Gloves are EN388 Certified, scoring a 4502 in testing. See below for a breakdown of this testing.

Hazard Resistance Rating
Abrasion Resistance 4
Cut Resistance 5
Tear Resistance 0
Puncture Resistance 2

The HexArmor Hercules 400R6E is highly needle stick resistant and has the benefit of being a single glove solution with no need to wear an inner or outer layer (unless desired). Protection zones against cut, abrasion and punctures feature on the whole of the glove and gauntlet wrist protection. These gloves have not only been tested to EN38 mechanical standards, but have also been tested for needle stick resistance with a 25 gauge hypodermic needle, ensuring their protection against sharp objects.

Conditions

The HexArmor Hercules 3180 Gloves are suitable for use in either indoor or outdoor working environments. Suitable for cold weather in wet or dry conditions, in either dirty of clean use.

Care Instructions

Before being used the HexArmor Hercules 3180 Venom Defender Snake Handling Gloves may be a little less flexible than they should be, to change this please follow these instructions.

  • Wash the gloves in a washing machine cycle at 30°C and add a little fabric softener
  • Repeat this process
  • Leave the gloves to dry at room temperature — this should take approximately one day
  • The gloves should now be softer and give greater dexterity

The gloves should become more and more flexible as you use them. It is a good idea to wash the gloves periodically but please be aware that it is imperative to wash the gloves if they become coated with venom. Always wash the gloves in the manner described above.

Sizing Information

  Safety Gloves Sizing Information Guide

In order to select the correct size of safety glove, simply measure across your palm at the point indicated in the picture. Then compare your measurement with the chart below to ensure that you select the correct size of glove for your hand.

We would recommend using a tape measure or ruler to get the right measurement. Our measurements are based on centimetres.

Where your measurement falls on the boundary of two sizes, we would recommend selecting the larger of the two sizes for a comfortable fit. However, if you would specifically like your gloves to be a closer fit, perhaps for work that requires fine movements, select the smaller of the two sizes.

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
