Protection Ratings and Safety Standards for Dyflex Contact Heat Safe Work Gloves

EN 388

  • EN 388: 4X42C

EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of gloves used for safety and protection. It determines the gloves' performance when used for protection against mechanical machinery by measuring the fabric's abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure a glove in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.

Standard Resistance Rating
Abrasion Resistance Level 4
Cut Resistance N/A
Tear Resistance Level 4
Puncture Resistance Level 2
ISO Cut Resistance Level C

EN 407

  • X1XXXX

EN 407 is a European safety regulation governing the sale of gloves and garments that are resistant to any number of fire, heat and molten related hazards. Please view the table below to find out more:

Standard Resistance Rating
Burning Resistance N/A
Contact Heat Resistance Level 1 (100°C)
Convective Heat Resistance N/A
Radiant Heat Resistance N/A
Resistance to Small Molten Splashes N/A
Resistance to Large Molten Splashes N/A

Key Features and Benefits

  • Bulk quantity keeps costs down, instantly making mass outfitting affordable
  • 100°C contact heat rating allows handling of volatile and dangerously hot material
  • Ideal for kitting out an entire warehouse or factory
  • Maximum level 4 abrasion resistance rating under EN 388
  • Lightweight and sleek liner promotes qualities of natural grip
  • Reinforced thumb crotch preserves shelf life of the glove in face of wear and tear
  • Available in four different sizes for a guaranteed perfect fit

Suitable Applications and Environments for Use

100°C Contact Heat Resistance

A level one contact heat resistance rating indicates that a user can safely handle material with a heated temperature of up to 100°C. This is perfect for mechanics, automotive industry workers, machinists and anyone getting their hands dirty around heated material.

Lightweight and Sleek Design Brief

Mechanics and machinists demand gloves that promote as much natural touch as possible. Polyco Dyflex Safety Gloves follow a sleek and slender design design brief which promotes that maximum amount of natural touch and dexterity as possible, allowing the user to seamlessly handle tricky parts, equipment and implements with ease.

Foam Nitrile Palm Coating

Foam nitrile is an incredibly durable and porous coating. It is unparalleled when working around small amounts of liquid, as it works to absor water and oil, preventing slips and drops.

Foam nitrile behaves like a sponge, creating a suction cup effect which leaves the user able to grip tightly onto whatever it is they're lifting. It is also around three times more puncture resistant than rubber, making it the perfect option for machinists.

Reinforced Thumb Crotch

A reinforced thumb crotch extends the shelf life of a glove massively, as it prevents tears and breakage in an inherently weak area. Reinforcement also enhances grip strength, as the area at which the thumb and palm meet is bolstered, creating a stronger, more stable platform when handling material.

Polyco Dyflex Safety Gloves

Revolutionary Self-Sanitising Foundation Fabric

The "Sanitized" fabric hygiene system helps to reduce the growth and spread of microorganisms that are particularly problematic, such as clostridia and other antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This is particularly beneficial with work gloves because of the build up of sweat and the risk of cross contamination from hand to face throughout the day.

Breathable Back Enhances Airflow

The benefits of a palm only coating include increased airflow and the natural release of odour and perspiration throughout the day. Whether you're working tirelessly handling material and boxes throughout the day, or you're sweating over heated machine parts, sweat build-up is free to exit the glove naturally at the back of the hand.

Polyco Dyflex Safety Gloves

Safe Handling All Day Everyday

Under EN 388, Polyco Dyflex Safety Gloves have been accredited with the maximum level 4 abrasion resistance rating, indicating how durable and strong they are when used continuously throughout the day. Abrasion resistance is ideal for protecting against constant contact, scuffs, scratches, tearing and small bumps when handling boxes and equipment.

What is EN 388?

You might have noticed that this product adheres to EN standard EN 388. EN standards ensure that the product you are buying meets the safety standards of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the highest standards organisation recognised by and working on behalf of the European Union. To pass any EN standard, a PPE product must undergo some of the most rigorous safety tests around.

There are many EN standards that our gloves adhere to. However, the EN standard that we’re concerned about here is EN 388. EN 388 stands for Mechanical Resistance, and informs you of your gloves' resistance to abrasion, cuts, tears and punctures.

How Do I Read the EN 388 Score?

Simply speaking, the higher the score that this product achieves, the better the product will be at resisting that hazard. Products will score between Level 0 and Level 4 for abrasion, tears and punctures, and if they weren’t tested for that hazard you will see N/A written instead of a number.

Cuts are a little different and, with the EN 388 standard rewritten in 2016, it means that gloves will either be tested to cut resistance or ISO cut resistance (sometimes called TDM cut resistance). Gloves tested to cut resistance will score between Level 0 and Level 5, and gloves tested to ISO cut resistance will achieve a score between Level A and Level F with the higher letter offering better cut protection.

Where Can I Find Out More?

This is just a brief overview of EN standard EN 388 so you know where you are standing. For further information, you can see the Introductory EN 388 Blog in our Knowledge Centre.
